why teach a peachfronted conure to step up?

Well, my friends, I'm glad you asked that. I have experimented by allowing some of my babies to be wild aviary birds and training some of my peachfronts to be true pets. The step up command really makes everything go more smoothly.

  • A bird who "steps up" is easier to move from a flight to a hospital, transport, or vacation cage.
  • A bird who "steps up" and who somehow gets out of his flight -- don't think it will never happen in 20-plus years of a Peachfronted Conure's long life -- is much easier to pick up and bring back to the flight.
  • A bird who "steps up" isn't as much of a pain in the rear end to the vet, the bird sitter, and other helpers who don't have the experience at picking up a Peachfronted Conure one-handed that you might happen to have.
