Sheldon the 30-year-old peachfront conure is getting ready for his Gotcha Day. He came into our lives on July 30, 1990, and he's still going strong. For most of his life, he was an aviary bird tightly bonded to his mate, who passed away at age 27. He was sad and withdrawn for a time, but slowly, slowly, he has become more active again and involved in the home. His voice is not strong, but he flies and climbs well, and he is good at step up onto the stick. (Less good at step up onto a bare hand or fist, but that's to be expected from an aviary bird.) He isn't a huge fan of his play gym or toys in general BUT he enjoys snuggling with his parrot plush toy...He has a lifelong aversion to the camera, but I've been sneaking a few photos from time to time to post on Instagram.
